The business was formed in the late 1960’s as a single proprietorship under its original business name: GABISAN SHIPPING TRANSPORT. It was founded by the late FRANCISCO U. GABISAN, SR. Born to a family of fishermen, he was equipped with a vast experience in the marine business and navigation as he operated and personally commandeered three small wooden-hulled and outrigger motor boats which he named: 1. MBCA “MANUEL II”, 2. MBCA “MISS HILONGOS”, and 3. MBCA “HILONGOS EXPRESS”. With meager finances, he employed very minimal number of crew members composed of relatives, neighbors and friends who shared the same experience that he had as a lowly fisherman. In the mid 70’s, however, all the outrigger vessels were phased out as they became outmoded.

MV FLORANTE

Moving forward, the Gabisan patriarch struggled financially in his efforts to keep the business going as he introduced two new wooden-hulled (non-outrigger) boats which he named MV “GLORIA G” and MV “FLORANTE”. As in his previous operations, having Major/Minor Patron Liencse, Mr. Gabisan, Sr., personally carried out his sea navigational operations which earned the trust and confidence of the riding public. This ultimately paved the way for his two sons: MANUEL M. GABISAN (Licensed Major Patron) and FLORANTE M. GABISAN (Licensed OIC-Navigational Watch) to acquire adequate navigational experience which equipped them to become Masters of Vessels from their family’s business operations.

MV GLORIA-G

It was in the late 70’s that the family business evolved into a full-fledge corporation in November 14, 1979 and was duly registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission under its new business name: GABISAN SHIPPING LINES, INC. it is primarily engaged in marine transportation serving the CEBU – HILONGOS and CEBU – TALIBON, BOHOL and vice versa routes, currently operating four vessels consisting of one steel-hulled passenger fast craft, the MV “GLORIA G-1”, and three steel-hulled passenger-cargo vessels, namely: MV “GLORIA TWO”, MV GLORIA THREE” and MV “GLORIA FIVE (a RORO Vessel). These four vessels are under the command of able ship masters that include its two working owners: MANUEL M. GABISAN and FLORANTE M. GABISAN. The corporation’s Finance and Administrative operations are also currently handled and managed by the rest of the family siblings and grandchildren under the guidance of the matriarch, GLORIA M. GABISAN.
